Rochdale Cricket Club
Saturday 20th June - Ramsbottom away - a tough few hills and the job was a good ‘un.
As the town hall struck 10.30 myself, Dave Sigsworth, Jack Duffy, Ruby Mann, Adam Saville, Ian and Matt Denham, man of steel Brad Gartland, Lee Bromfield set off towards Norden - the dreaded Old Betts was in our mind.
A few waves from Charlotte and Karen Reynolds gave me hope- the hill was upon us - a few of us struggled with a break half way up but the main lads murdered it - we had arrived at Owd Betts pub -
The usual hob knobs and sports mixture were on offer - with great views of Manchester ahead it was time for the downhill into Ramsbottom - oh what a relief.
We arrived at Ramsbottom around 11.40am - Keith and Linda Rostron had drove from goosnargh not Preston to meet us - thank you Keith and Linda for your support.
Former lady cricket Sophie Ullah was also at Ramsbottom training with the ladies team - our Middleton branch of cyclists (Pat and friends) arrived shortly after us and we were complete. Ramsbottom CC looked fantastic.
It was time to leave after a few stories from iron man Brad Gartland.
The hill out of Ramsbottom was a tough start to the return journey. Pat and friends seemed to be using electric bike going up this hill. (Only messing lads)
The downhill into Bury was a tough one with a hurricane in our face.
As we were struggling up past Fairfield hospital Karl Simpson shouted support from his van - cheers Simmy - can’t believe you thought I was struggling.
We could smell the steak and onion baguettes from Baguettes butty shop.
We had completed yet another 20 mile bike ride.
Next stop Walsden Sunday 28th June 10am
