Rochdale Cricket Club
Rochdale Cricket Club are excited to announce the appointment of Oli Makin as Club Captain from the 2024 Season onwards.
Having started his cricket at Rochdale at a young age, Oli ventured down the road to Norden in search of regular cricket, where he had a very successful 11 years winning numerous trophies along the way, working his way into becoming a 1st XI regular.
During that period, Oli earned himself two stints with Hampshire CCC’s 2nd XI, where he took 11 wickets for 143 runs off 48 overs on debut, which included 8 for 86 off 27 Overs. Unfortunately at the time though, Hampshire weren’t in a position financially to offer a contract.
After a couple of games with Northants and Leicestershire, Oli turned his focus back to his professional career as a groundsman which he’s since excelled with.
Looking forward at the upcoming campaign, and the excitement of playing cricket alongside his Long-term teammate Michael Harling, Oli said “I moved back to Rochdale to play senior cricket again with Michael (Harling), in which I have been back at the club now for a few years. This year I am proud to accept the club captaincy role in the 200th year of the clubs existence. Let’s make it one to remember.”
Rochdale Cricket Club wish Oli and the rest of the playing group the best of luck for the club’s 200th Season, which is now scheduled to start on Sunday 28th April, when the 1st XI travel to Haslingden, and the 2nd XI host Walsden at Redbrook.
